The Herdade do Lousial White Castas Antigas is produced in the Cova da Beira sub-region, within the D.O.C. Beira Interior region, from a blend of traditional grape varieties from the Beira Interior: Síria, Callum, and Arinto. This wine is the result of a continuous study to find the best combinations of these varieties, showcasing the great potential still to be explored in the region. The Mediterranean climate with some continental influence, and the light-textured granite-based litholic soils, provide an ideal environment for growing these varieties.
The wine has a citrine yellow colour and a bright appearance. The nose is delicate, fresh, and complex, with subtle fruity notes. On the palate, it surprises with remarkable acidity, powerful structure, creamy texture, and a delicate retronasal aroma, leading to a long and appealing finish. The winemaking process includes manual harvesting, crushing, and total destemming, with protection against premature oxidation, followed by gravity-based clarification and controlled fermentation between 20°C and 22°C. It is aged in stainless steel, preserving freshness and varietal character.
This wine is ideal for serving at 8-10°C and pairs beautifully with strong fish dishes, baked cod, and lagareiro-style octopus.
